Publisher Description
This is Going to Hurt was the publishing phenomenon of the century, read by many millions, loved by at least fifty of them, and adapted into a major TV series. But it was only part of the story.
By turns hilarious, heartbreaking and humbling, Undoctored is about what happens when a doctor hangs up his scrubs, but medicine refuses to let go of him.
It's about an extraordinary medical school education.
It's about opening old wounds and examining the present-day scars.
It's about hospital admissions and personal ones.
It's about blowing up your life and stitching it back together.
It's about being a doctor and being a patient.
It's about 300 pages long.
Undoctored is Adam Kay's funniest and most moving book yet - an astonishing portrait of a life in and out of medicine, from one of Britain's finest storytellers.
This unabridged audio download, narrated by the author, features extra diary entries recorded in audio for the first time, and an audiobook exclusive interview with bestselling author and broadcaster The Reverend Richard Coles.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
It feels flippant to use the phrase “laugh-out-loud funny” about an audiobook that features as many heartbreaking stories of personal trauma as this one. But author, doctor and comedian Adam Kay’s talent is rooted in his ability to strike a balance between comedy and tragedy with unflinching honesty, self-deprecating humour and a guffaw-inducing turn of phrase. Ultimately, his memoir Undoctored tells two stories: how an unsure young man became a doctor, and how he unshackled himself from a career that was damaging his sense of self. The vulnerability and sense of comic timing in Kay’s narration makes this a compelling listen, even in its most difficult moments.

Why the long pauses?!
Amazing content, love Adam, but the way it’s been edited is SO hard to listen to, the long LONG pauses are so difficult to get into a flow with!
Brutal, powerful and emotional
Before I started listening, I read the previous comments and would recommend listening to this a x1.25, although the long pauses seem to disappear later in the book. I found this book to be a bit different to want I expected and arguably wanted when I purchased the audio book. I was expecting more renditions of the wards of the nhs, more horror stories, and as sick as this might sound looked for some shared experience we might have had, not because I’m some sort of stalker, but because I’ve made it through days and thought how the **** did we manage that! What I found with this book was that Adam had opening up about not only his life, but events that had occurred within it, a brave and wonderful decision. I was shocked at some of the revelations, proud of him for what he said and as always felt for him in difficult moments. I have the advantage of working for the NHS, and understand how hard it can be and how wrong the attitude to patient safety can be, I see it on a daily basis and don’t know how we get through. There are days I have given my blood (assaults are fairly frequent) sweat (lying PT’s) and tears to my job and hope to continue to always do that. This book is different from ‘This is going to hurt’ but if you enjoyed that I think you’ll enjoy this one, if your a consultant you need to read this one, and if your human, I would recommend his one.
