'Untamed will liberate women - emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It is phenomenal.' (Elizabeth Gilbert, author of City of Girls and Eat Pray Love)
Who were you before the world told you who to be?
Part inspiration, part memoir, Untamed explores the joy and peace we discover when we stop striving to meet the expectations of the world, and instead dare to listen to and trust in the voice deep inside us. From the beloved New York Times bestselling author, speaker and activist Glennon Doyle.
For many years, Glennon Doyle denied her discontent. Then, while speaking at a conference, she looked at a woman across the room and fell instantly in love. Three words flooded her mind: There. She. Is. At first, Glennon assumed these words came to her from on high but soon she realised they had come to her from within. This was the voice she had buried beneath decades of numbing addictions and social conditioning. Glennon decided to let go of the world's expectations of her and reclaim her true untamed self.
Soulful and uproarious, forceful and tender, Untamed is both an intimate memoir and a galvanising wake-up call. It is the story of how one woman learned that a responsible mother is not one who slowly dies for her children, but one who shows them how to fully live. It is also the story of how each of us can begin to trust ourselves enough to set boundaries, make peace with our bodies, honour our anger and heartbreak, and unleash our truest, wildest instincts.
Untamed shows us how to be brave. And, as Glennon insists, 'The braver we are, the luckier we get.'

Courage & vocabulary to be yourself
An exceptional book. Insightful, practical, engaging & encouraging. An unusual start but it’s relevance becomes clear. A balanced mix of the importance of breaking out of long held patriarchal ideals, taking action to fulfil yourself and believing it’s possible. It’s the most transformational book I’ve ever read. There is no going back. Will buy this for every woman I love.
I’ve listened to it 3 times now and I will continue to do so, something else speaks to me every time I listen to it
Nothing inspiring for me
Glennon’s story is nice and happy to see she did ditch her serial unfaithful husband and eventually follow her heart. However, considering her surrounding culture and the year, I couldn’t understand why she married her husband in the first place or why she didn’t leave him earlier.
Also, it would have been more inspiring if she left him prior to meeting Abby when she had no one waiting in the wings.
I am thinking the book would be more inspiring and useful to females of past generations or females living within cultures or countries where they are forced to follow strict rules and so do not currently feel free to choose the life they want.
I am 55 years old, live in the United Kingdom under no strict religious or family rules so fortunately I have always felt free to choose the life I want. I possibly, have always been untamed along with most of my family and friends.
I conclude that I found the book boring because of my personality and my life experiences. It is one of the very few books I haven’t finished.
