Poles and Room 101
I finished the book today, and I am unsure how I feel about the ending. I guess that is the idealistic version of myself feeling disappointed. Exploring Winstons internal dialogue, from the beginning, the question of BB and the interchangeable facets of the past - how to ensure conformity is to ensure BB facts are correct through the change of several factors, such as: change of media; alterations of history ‘The Times’; modified paintings; music and nursery rhymes etc.
I felt unsure of Winstons character, of his romanticised version of the working class, how he believed it lies with the proles. Now reflecting, what other choice in hope could he have? His social circle had no power, so to seek external sources as possible answers, for hope, as hope, it’s a human condition. An idealistic human condition. I was sad that he lost Julia. Julia lost him. Room 101 is something that keeps one awake at night, pondering before sleep.
Amazing piece literature!
One of the best pieces of literature I have ever read in my life. You are warned before you read it, as you will be able to draw many similarity’s to the modern day political climate.
