A Crumby World

Five decades of social commentary through the art of Robert Crumb

Publisher Description

Robert Crumb (or R. Crumb as he typically signs his work) is one of the world’s most recognized cartoonists. He is the prolific creator of comic icons from Fritz the Cat to Mr. Natural and numerous underground comics. But there is another side to Crumb’s work. He is a sharp social observer and artistic activist reflected through work done for alternative journals during the 1970-1980s and more recently for more mainstream publications such as the New Yorker. Though there is an abundance of information about Crumb himself, there is a dearth of information about the drawings themselves. This is an attempt to explain why he drew what he did.
