APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
V.E. Schwab masters swashbuckling adventure in the deeply satisfying sequel to her crossover fantasy smash A Darker Shade of Magic. In a world of parallel universes, trans-universal ambassador Kell and cutthroat antihero Delilah Bard fight their way back to each other. Schwab applies a slower pace here, letting characters breathe more, but her salty wit and intense action enliven every turn. A Gathering of Shadows ends on an emotional cliffhanger that leaves us burning for the trilogy’s conclusion.
