A Horse Named Sunrise was inspired by author Karen Storer’s volunteer work in equine therapy at Equestrian Connection in Lake Forest, Illinois. The story isrootedin real-life magic—Sunrise, the horse at its heart, is a gentle and intuitive therapy horse who continues to work alongside her sister Heldi, nephew Torkel, and all the amazing horses at the stable. Karen’s experience watching these horses connect with children with special needs—simply by showing up, listening, and offering joy—sparked a story about healing, resilience, andthe quiet power of presence. A visit to 1dr Acres Farm, Sunrise’s birthplace, deepened the sense of wonderthat flows through every page.
