Publisher Description
An ode to the humble hedgehog from a lifelong obsessive. Exploring what hedgehogs actually do and what they tell us about our need for wildlife and the changes in the British countryside, The Hedgehog's Dilemma travels from the Outer Hebridees via the American Hedgehog Festival, Sonic the Hedgeghog and Mrs Tiggywinkle, to a field in Shropshire, where Hugh Warwick's love of hedgehogs began.
Customer Reviews
Wonderfully Amusing - I just couldn't put it down.
Not just for hedgehog fanatics, this book will have you chuckling to yourself as you gain a wonderful insight into the very tough existence of this most loveable of wild creatures. The sheer dedication and devotion (and often eccentricities) of those who fight and/or care for them is heartwarming. As for the author, he comes across as charmingly bonkers - and possibly a bit OCD - but with an ability to look at the funny side of life.
This book is funny, touching, and occasionally emotional. The life of a hedgehog is by no means an easy one, and yet this little creature manages to plod along in a courageous (if somewhat bumbling and resigned) sort of way - in spite of all that we and nature throw at it. This is a tale of almost childish wonder and obsession (rather than a list of facts and figures) - so put the kettle on, make yourself comfortable - and enjoy.
