Publisher Description

In the green depths of spring, morning breaks on a woman splayed in a bed of flowers - her eyes wide, her neck broken.

Her death is a mystery; so is the woman herself. But as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his team peer into the dark corners of the victim's past, they expose a secret that rots at the very heart of their community - a secret that will implicate someone they've trusted for years. And as Gamache knows too well, in the flickering shadows of death, the truth may be just a trick of the light.

Exquisitely written novels

I am so grateful to have been recommended
Louise Penny’s wonderful Inspector Gamache novels. I love everything about them: the characterisation, the humour, the intelligent and layered plots, the setting. The novels are best read in chronological order, not just because threads of the novels intertwine, but so that the reader may enjoy the development of the key characters. Literary references and the use of poetry also play an important part in the novels. Louise Penny’s exquisite writing moves me to tears, as well as causes me to laugh out loud. Having now read seven titles, I am beginning to dread finishing the series.
