Two years after Pierce's near-death experience, the 17-year-old has been expelled from her posh Connecticut girls' school; her mother has moved them to the South Florida island of Isla Huesos; and Pierce must cope both with being the new girl and with a dark, handsome guy, who she met while she was dead and who won't leave her alone. While the fun premise and Pierce's irreverent voice are trademark Cabot, this novel has trouble getting off the ground. Cabot loosely hangs her story on the myth of Hades and Persephone, but the plot is hampered by confusing digressions and frequent jumps in time that make it difficult to pinpoint what's in the present and what's in the past. However, Cabot's avid fans including devotees of her earlier forays into paranormal romance, as in the Mediator series are likely to forgive the bumpy start to this planned trilogy. Ages 12 up.

Amazing Book!
I absolutely LOVE this book! The storyline intertwines with Greek Mythology and actually taught me about the subject. The storyline is well thought out, with just enough at the end to leave me thirsting for more. With the descriptions given, I feel like I nearly know some of the characters in the story and I almost feel as if I'm experiencing this story myself, instead of reading it off a page. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of dark or supernatural romances and will definitely be buying the rest of the series as soon as they're available!

A failed fantasy
I tried reading this novel but gave up about a third of the way in. Cabot's concept was interesting but her writing was messy. You'll find her constantly repeating information you read about three pages before. I mean, 'thanks Cabot! I already know that, I read it two pages earlier'! The girl was boring and the boy I am by no means attracted to.
