About the Author:


Manilal Gala, born 1957 in Patri, Kachh, is poet, writer, ethnographer, researcher.


His other poetry collection is entitled Sanjire Me Dhabal Pira, સન્જીરે મેં ધબલ્ પીરા (1994).


Presently documenting oral traditions and folklore of Kachh (Kachchh-Kutch) region. Published collection of 11 Kachhi folk tales entitled "Aakhani Akhotdi" (Story without End) in 2005.


He is active in a lexicographic effort for compiling dictionary of Kachhi language - Kachhi Sad Kos.


He has also prepared two pedagogical works for learning Kachhi.


He has translated excerpts of Dairies of Andre Tarkovsky, a Russian Filmmaker and Captain James MacMurdo's Account of Kachh (1820) entitled “Kachh Des ji Galiu” in Kachhi language. His other translated work include George Grierson's Linguistic Survey about Kachhi (1919) titled, “Kachhi Ji Bhasa Vegnanik Vadhod”


Recently, he is engaged in compiling-documenting wall-ceiling painting traditions of Kachh. He has researched and prepared 1400+ image-documentation work, which is a collaborative project involving many photographers; and has published e-book titled "Kachh ja BhIt ne Chhaj ChItIr : Kink Sngro, Kink Dhastavej"" (490 pages) available in DVD (2018)


He was editor of Vadhod Quarterly in paper-print format (2000-2005) and is presently editor of vahod.com website, an academic-literary effort in Kachhi language.
