But his re-entry into civilian life is not going smoothly, and his encounters with the deadly Xenomorphs are far from over! Now, Cruz has only one chance to save his son from the horrific fate he barely escaped. The clock toward total collapse is ticking. The aliens are loose! Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Salvador Larroca team up for an all-new tale of the sci-fi/horror titan that has terrified audiences for decades. No one is safe. No one is innocent. A Great Start
Although treading hardly any new ground the story starts off well and tells a simple Alien tale in that universe well. Leaving some tantalising breadcrumbs and story threads to be continued in the future, the story is a good, solid addition to the Alien comics legacy.
Like many others I worried when Disney took over the license and gave it to Marvel, but this first storyline shows that so far, Alien fans have nothing to fear. The story isn’t wholly original – as is sadly the par for the Alien franchise. However, the emotion and art compensates and the story races along at a nice pace, hinting as hidden mysteries in the Alien’s background more so than in human skullduggery trying to experiment with the Alien. Far better than the Marvel Star Wars comics, this story has an emotional weight to it and a feel for the source material that fits in with the films much better than their Star Wars titles. I hope that the Predator title gets similar treatment.
It won’t win awards for breathtaking originality – but neither would the films the comic is based upon, it does tell a simple tell very well and whets the appetite for more to come. So job well done.
