Publisher Description
She was never meant to be his equal…or his bride.
When a devastating fire claims her noble family, young Lady Amber vanishes without a trace—presumed dead to the world that once awaited her.
But the little girl survives.
Raised in secrecy as a boy by a humble gardener and his wife, “Johnny” grows up far from the life she was born to inherit… and far from the dangers that still linger in her past.
Until everything changes.
When the long-absent heir to Ambersley returns, the fragile life Johnny has known begins to unravel. Forced to confront the truth of who she is, she joins London society as Lady Johanna. Yet, she finds herself caught between two worlds—and drawn to a man she can neither trust nor resist.
He needs a wealthy wife.
She needs protection.
A marriage of convenience may solve everything…except the feelings growing between them.
Because friendship was safe. Love is not.
And when long-buried secrets come to light, Johanna must decide where she truly belongs—and whether she’s willing to risk her heart for a future she was never meant to claim.
Escape into a heartfelt Regency-set romantic saga filled with secrets, sacrifice, and a love worth fighting for.
Perfect for readers who love a clean historical romance, the friends to lovers trope, marriage of convenience complications, hidden identities and family secrets all culminating in a slow-burn emotional romance.
Customer Reviews
A substantial romance
I like the heroine very much and enjoyed the way the story unfolded unhurriedly.
The only grouses (spoiler alert) are the rather easy dispatch of the villainess; the attitude about-turn of the Duke's rival (Worthing); and the inexplicability if our hero's depth of feelings towards his wife. I was not wholly convinced how and why he fell in love with Johanna.
But this is so much better than 90% of the romances I've the spare pounds to purchase.
Mostly enjoyable
Fairly good book, really liked Johanna, Harry, Worthing and most of the staff, but hated Derek as much as his family. Not satisfied at the end of the book, feel sorry for Johanna.
Totally Engrossed
Very good read. Downloaded the sample and was hooked immediately. I just couldn't put the book down, the end of the chapters left you wanting more. Well done Amy!
