Customer Reviews
Concise - a primer
This book is hard to review in a sense, because it unashamedly lacks detail and falls back on simplistic and reductionist analyses. It could thus be heavily criticised. But the thing is, it has no pretension to be a thorough and detailed account. It's intended to be a summary; a quick overview. Presenting the entire history of any nation, even one so young as America, in a mere 50 events is an almost ludicrous undertaking, but this feels like a strong attempt. Inevitably, things have fallen by the wayside - there is no mention at all of Silicon Valley, nor of Hollywood; some Presidents have had to go unmentioned too. However, it's a short and snappy read, densely laden with facts which sink in quickly, and I have no hesitation in recommending it as a short read on US history.
