Publisher Description

When the journalist Lynn Barber was 16, she was picked up at a bus-stop by an attractive older man who drew up in his sports car - and her life was almost wrecked. A bright confident girl, on course to go to Oxford, she began a relationship which, incredibly, was encouraged by her conventional, suburban parents and which took her into the louche, semi-criminal world of west London just as the 1960s began. Ruin beckoned, until one day she made an important discovery.

'An Education', the opening piece of this fascinating memoir, was highly praised when first published in Granta magazine, and is currently being filmed by the BBC with a Nick Hornby script.

Jak Cooper ,

Oh gosh .....

I really hate review of books which state "it'll make you laugh! It'll make you cry" ....... BUT this really did.

I watched the film An Education and although it was okay, I didn't think a huge amount of it. The main chappy was a bit creepy. I wasn't sure if he actually was odd, or if it was the portrayal, writing, or the actor, so I decided to read the book.

So very different from the film ( thankfully)

Lynn Barber really has, in my humble opinion, led a quite extraordinary life. The "Simon" period was only 2 years and her life has been so much more interesting than this short chapter.

She said she was effectively Beaten up in the media about how she portrayed her parents, and her musings on this were very, very honest.

The chapter concerning her husband really spoke volumes to me. I cannot even articulate how much her honesty means.

This book is well worth the read, and Lynn is a huge inspiration.
