Publisher Description
NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE
Previously published as Stories of Your Life and Others
With his masterful first collection, multiple-award-winning author Ted Chiang deftly blends human emotion and scientific rationalism in eight remarkably diverse stories, all told in his trademark precise and evocative prose.
From a soaring Babylonian tower that connects a flat Earth with the heavens above, to a world where angelic visitations are a wondrous and terrifying part of everyday life; from a neural modification that eliminates the appeal of physical beauty, to an alien language that challenges our very perception of time and reality. . .
Chiang's rigorously imagined fantasia invites us to question our understanding of the universe and our place in it.

Weird
Weird - but somehow an entertaining read! The author certainly has an imagination.
A little misleading...
I've never commented on iBooks but felt compelled to for this collection as it's pretty misleading if you're not aware beforehand...
For those expecting a full novel of the film 'Arrival', be aware this is a collection of short stories with the cover and title being used as a hook to draw you in.
'Arrival' is based on a Chiang short story titled 'Stories of Your Life' which is present here; however none of the other stories are in any way related - be warned!
This is a fabulous set of novellas but using the film cover and title is a pretty cheap way to encourage people to purchase.
If you want exceptional short sci-fi without a misleading title/cover, try Ken Liu's collection of translated Chinese novellas 'Invisible Planets'.
