Samuel Hopkins Adams (Jan 26, 1871 – Nov 16, 1958) was an American writer. His most remarkable works were investigative journalism and muckraking. Adams was a productive author of both fiction and non-fiction, and based some of his stories on true events. Most of his fiction works were written in genre of detective and investigation fiction. He also wrote a lot about mores and tempers of America in middle of XX century.

Average Jones is collection of short detective stories by Samuel Hopkins Adams. Through perspective of main character, a detective, we are allowed observe scenes of American life, to see what was boiling in American crime kitchen in post World War II times.
