Max thought his government internship would mean filing paperwork and fetching coffee. But when a glitch in the system switches his assignment with that of a senior researcher, he finds himself shoved into the darkest secret humanity has ever tried to contain—the Backrooms.

Paired with Gary, a grizzled veteran who treats survival like just another shift, Max is dragged into a bureaucratic nightmare where reports, incident logs, and HR "training videos" are the only shield against the unexplainable. From janitors wheeling away bodies that still move, to caretakers tending "tame" creatures that suddenly snap, Max quickly learns that no one is really in control.

But something is calling to him in the buzzing silence of the Backrooms. A voice that feels safe, comforting—yet might be the most dangerous thing of all.
