It's fall in the quaint town of Fels where no one celebrates Halloween. Monsters, ghouls, and ghosts belong to other, faraway places. But beneath the boring small town veneer, Fels is hiding a secret: a monster that has been preying on its children for centuries.

Bookworm Jo loves her pet guinea pigs, Halloween, and all things horror, but since she transferred to a new school, she's struggling to find friends. When he promptly goes missing, the adults can no longer remember him, and it's up to Jo to investigate. With little choice, Jo seeks help from the few people who believe her: Her grandma, a group of hobby historians who monitor the supernatural, and the most annoying boy on the planet, aka Hektor's best friend. Between them, can they stop the monster and rescue Hektor or will the rye field claim even more innocent victims?
