When wealthy property developer Francis Tan and his family are found slain in their mansion, Cato Kwong is forced to recall a personal history that makes his investigation doubly painful. The killer is elusive and brutal, and the investigation takes Cato to Shanghai. APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
We were completely taken in by this world-class crime novel by Australian Alan Carter, winner of the Ned Kelly Award for his debut, Prime Cut. When Detective Sergeant Philip “Cato” Kwong’s well-to-do university friend and family are butchered in their McMansion, the thoughtful policeman gets embroiled in a tricky murder investigation. Bad Seed—the third Cato Kwong novel—is a great introduction to Carter’s talent. It’s a brilliant thriller with crackling dialogue, cunning plot twists and rich characters.
