As ever, observant, witty and joyous!

Mhairi McFarlane is by far my favourite author for writings on love, friendship, heartbreak and comedy. Her sharp observations and ability to sum up complicated yet highly relatable emotions and situations in just a few short words or sentences, never fails to amaze me. I devoured this in a day, unable to put the book down until I knew what happened next - all the while knowing I’ll have the mother of all book hangovers once I’d finished it! To quote Carly Simon, nobody does it better ✨📖

A bit flat

Feeling a bit flat after reading this, because I love Mhairi’s other books so much. The strong, relatable characters are the big draw in her other books and you find yourself rooting for them. I didn’t really warm to any of them here. There was literally nothing appealing about Joe so it frustrated me that Roisin wasted so much time with him and then playing detective in the aftermath. The first half of the book was quite lengthy description and no action. Overall, a bit flat during and after reading.

5* Hugely entertaining

I'm already a great fan of Mhairi McFarlane's writing and Between Us is another brilliant novel. The plot concentrates on several close friends who met ten years ago when working in Waterstones book shop. Now in their thirties they've kept their friendship alive as the years passed and their careers progressed.

Mhair'si story telling ability and the punchy dialogue between characters are, as usual, engrossing and excellent.

Not a book to dip in and out of, I found it unputdownable. Prepare to settle down and ignore everything around you until reaching the final chapter. You won't be disappointed.
