Wow, just wow!
Well, what can I say? This isn’t a book that can be easily summed up in a review or even discussed at length it would not be enough... it’s the kind of story that will mean something to everyone who embraces it on a personal level. For me, Monica James, broke me in ways I didn’t imagine was possible. Don’t get me wrong, I knew in my gut that this book would have an unconventional story and I was not disappointed- my heart didn’t get the memo!
“Don’t break my heart,” I whisper, blinking past my tears. “Look after it. Take it. It’s yours. It belongs to you. It always has.”
Beyond The Roses was heartbreakingly beautiful... bittersweet... filled with hope and something more— a deeper sense of truth... and very cathartic.
I fell deeper in love with this story while reading it, and I already know that Lola and Roman are forever etched in my heart and will always be two unforgettable characters and probably a new favourite top read from Monica James, an author I love and respect tremendously. My dark Queen has already scored marks on my soul and now permanently stitched herself into the seams of my tattered heart!!
The build up was layered and the pace was slow at first but picked up momentum. I would’ve liked a little more time experiencing some of the beautiful memories they created and shave off some off the angst... but gahh that’s just my opinion- I just needed to know more—FAST, and I was desperate to know how it ended... thankfully I was able to tape down the impulse (apparently I have a measure of self control, shocking- right?!)
This is the kind of ugly cry book you recommend to your friends just so that you can relive the experience and cry some more.
This is something that I live by and it really struck a chord deep within my being: “Never underestimate your impact on the world. You just may be someone’s reason for living.”
