Publisher Description
I was the Fool-king of Soho and the number-one slag in the Groucho Club, the second drunkest member of the world's drunkest band. This was no disaster, though. It was a dream coming true.'
For Alex James, music had always been a door to a more eventful life. But as bass player of Blur - one of the most successful British bands of all time - his journey was more exciting and extreme than he could ever have predicted. In Bit of a Blur he chronicles his journey from a slug-infested flat in Camberwell to a world of screaming fans and private jets - and his eventual search to find meaning and happiness (and, perhaps most importantly, the perfect cheese), in an increasingly surreal world.

Blurry and Brilliant
Two things surprised me about this book. The first is how anarchic Blur were as a band, living out the Rock and Roll dream, when at the time they came across as quite clean cut in comparison to their contemporaries. If Blur were the 90’s Beatles, Oasis were the Rolling Stones. But no, they were every bit of the archetypal Rock band living life on the edge.
The second ‘surprise’ was how well written this book is. It was a pleasure to read.
Alex paints each segment of his life with an almost poetic brush - rich with insight, detail and peppered with subtle humour. The book flows easily guiding us through ever surprising and varied situations, but with love and care. It never once feels like a ‘tell all - shocker’ although it has a certain amount of that content. Instead it is a graceful, light hearted, lyrical account of an intelligent mans hedonistic journey through success and on into self awareness and maturity.
Highly recommended.
Stellify
Inspiring, enlightening, intriguing and a often behind the scenes look at the life of a musician from one of the biggest bands to come of the uk.
Didn't want it to end.
