After The Puppet Show, a new storm is coming . . .
Jared Keaton, chef to the stars. Charming. Charismatic. Psychopath . . . He's currently serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of his daughter, Elizabeth. Her body was never found and Keaton was convicted largely on the testimony of Detective Sergeant Washington Poe.
So when a young woman staggers into a remote police station with irrefutable evidence that she is Elizabeth Keaton, Poe finds himself on the wrong end of an investigation, one that could cost him much more than his career.
Helped by the only person he trusts, the brilliant but socially awkward Tilly Bradshaw, Poe races to answer the only question that matters: how can someone be both dead and alive at the same time?
And then Elizabeth goes missing again - and all paths of investigation lead back to Poe.
The gripping new thriller in the Washington Poe series from M. W. Craven, winner of the CWA Gold Dagger Award for best crime novel of 2019.

Brilliant
I thought the first book in the series was great and often an author struggles to match such excellence in their second, however not in Mr Cravens case. This book is simply brilliant. It so hard to put down and is a most read for anyone.
Brilliantly researched and written, amazing characters and best of all Tilly and Poe.
Do not waste anymore time, read these Washington Poe books by M W Craven, in order is best, but whatever you do read them.
Fantastic
Great story and characters, loved the gourmet topic and the fact that the book kept me hooked from the beginning until the end.
What’s not to like?
Well, I didn’t like the first couple of pages, as a bird lover and vegetarian, but it was relevant to the fine dining, celebrity chef-y part of the storyline.
Also, at times credibility was stretched somewhat, but no more than other writers do, and the result was a really, really good plot.
Being brought up there, I enjoyed the Carlisle and Cumbrian references. I used to walk up and down Bank Street for no reason other than to smell that ground coffee shop.
I found the writing to be top notch and intelligent. Recommended.
