Boorun’s Adventure

Publisher Description

This is one of the Love our Lakes Enviro-Stories books. Written by students from Airly Primary School, Victoria, this book is about Boorun the pelican and his friends Goongerah the possum and a cheeky bull ant. They find bush tucker and medicine along their travel to the Gippsland Lakes.

This book uses Gunaikurnai language to help introduce the reader to the traditional language of the Gunaikurnai people who live in East Gippsland.

The students were involved in a workshop with Greening Australia and local Gunaikurnai where they learnt about language, bush tucker and Dreamtime stories. This book is the students’ interpretation of all of these elements.

Enviro-Stories is an innovative literacy education program that inspires learning about natal resource and catchment management issues.
