Publisher Description

Steering an organisation on its unique growth journey is one of the biggest personal challenges facing all leaders. Although the end goal, the destination may stay the same, the conditions experienced on the journey will be different within six months, and different again within a year.

Why? Because internal and external issues and events will constantly change the commercial landscape in which the organisation operates in.

Navigating the landscape has become the new core requirement of the 21st century leader. To deliver success, a more flexible, adaptable leadership approach is needed to keep everyone connected with the organisation on track - a framework that adapts to changing conditions on the journey.

Building the Pyramid demonstrates the winning (formula)® framework in action, through the use of a simple story set in ancient Egypt. It is an original interpretation of the challenges facing leaders and how success can be achieved.

Great leaders are great storytellers and the storytelling format has been cleverly used to describe the growth journey and the important lessons all leaders should learn.

The pyramid is used as a metaphor for growth and the direct correlation between the Pharaoh and the modern-day leader's journey are powerfully communicated.

Lessons learned on the Pharaoh's journey including how to:

- Attract, recruit and retain talent

- Lead the 'change' required to deliver success

- Harness the power of vision and values

- Increase levels of engagement across the organisation

- Build a positive workplace culture

- Align strategy to operational performance

- Inspire others to maximise their potential

The book also includes practical checklists, development models, journey maps and other useful tips and pieces of advice.

More importantly, Building the Pyramid demonstrates how to successfully navigate colleagues on the journey towards the creation of a more agile, successful and sustainable organisation.

A blueprint to success

I work for a company called Chess Telecom, John Stein has been involved with the company for many years now, and this book has been a staple read for all our management, great read, and easy to understand and implement changes to aid the success of your business or team! A must read!!!

Couched in a simple story, I felt this guide to strategy execution contained enough gems of wisdom to give a reader at any level of an organisation invaluable support, guidance and challenge as they seek to lead teams through change or growth. It challenges leaders to prepare, to plan, and to commit their personal energy at every stage of the journey in order to meet the responsibility leadership bestows. It does so not by preaching, but by sharing some great insights and home truths that more academic and weighty texts omit. A serious strategy execution guide that in a two hour read supplies enough wisdom for 12 months of implementation.

Management Book of the Year

Building the Pyramid was recently nominated as a CMI Management Book of the Year and it’s easy to understand why. The book is unlike traditional heavyweight tomes commonplace in the business book marketplace. John Stein has managed to communicate his Winning Formula Performance Framework using an original, storytelling format. He has also used his extensive experience of working with growing organisations to describe the journey facing leaders and managers in a clear and compelling manner. The book demystifies important topics such as leadership, vision, strategy, culture and values in a way that the reader is able to relate to the events described in the parable to their own organisation. More importantly and a real surprise to me, although Building the Pyramid is aimed primarily at leaders and managers, the book could be issued to every employee in an organisation – the performance message is simple, relevant and powerful.
