APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Dawn O’Porter brings empathy and nuance to the “cat lady” stereotype in her latest novel, which centres on Mia, a fortysomething woman whose deep, emotional connection with her cat leads her to join a bereavement support group for people grieving the loss of their pets. Although Mia’s cat is very much alive, she finds comfort in the company of others who understand the unique and unconditional love between humans and animals, and quickly becomes reliant on the group as a source of empathy sorely lacking in her conventional everyday life. When her marriage and career implode in spectacular fashion, Mia’s carefully controlled persona implodes with them, giving way to the quirky, complicated identity she has been suppressing in order to fit in with societal expectations. O’Porter examines themes of grief, sex, community and childhood trauma from an original perspective, resolving in a bittersweet ending that gives Cat Lady resonance beyond its unusual subject matter.

Heartwarming and beautifully executed!
Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A funny, entertaining book perfect for a holiday read. something to travel with or just immerse yourself into with a beloved pet sat on your lap.
Mia is a.. well you guessed it right! A cat lady with one elderly cat named Pigeon whom she loves more than herself and well, let’s face it, her husband Tristan. This book was sensational to the point where I found myself internally bawling and appreciative of my own furball (Shout out to my black bundle of joy Oogi who I love more than myself!! 🐈⬛).
“But animals help me, ya know? They calm me down. Something about that other heartbeat being around meant I weren’t on my own.” - Page 14, Cat Lady by Dawn O’Porter 🔴
It was sweet, heartwarming, funny at times, emotionally charged as ever; Dawn wrote with her heart and poured her soul into this book and I am so glad I had read this book as it's everything I needed and more. To whoever on bookstagram that I first saw this book on, thank you! If you've read this book then Imk and we can share thoughts and *hopefully* adorations!
