The story is narrated by Catriona, who sees herself as ‘one of the guys’ at an IT firm called Conquest. When Victoria Cox arrives as new Team Leader, Cat’s life is thrown into disarray. Cat is not used to mind-games and manipulation, but Victoria is the Queen of deception, and strong like a lioness.

When Cat's twin sister, Fiona, becomes seriously ill with cancer, Cat is still totally flummoxed by Vickie’s righteous attitude at work. Ultimately, Cat’s world tips off its axis when she discovers that Victoria has been sleeping with Fiona’s husband, Gary.
