Cracking fast-paced tale
There’s not a lot of depth to this, but it makes up for it with excitement and drama. Once the action’s started it doesn’t really slow down until the end.
A great combination of secret forces, huge consequences, chases, sciFi and tension which kept me turning the pages - I finished it in a few days.
A great thrill ride. I’ll be buying Number 2!
Crichton-esque
An extremely fast paced techno thriller, solid plot, believable characters and an explosive ending, someone should make a movie of this.
Page turner
Had followed Matt for ages on Twitter because of his tech credentials and I’m glad I hung around for his career switch to novelist. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I’m usually a slow reader but I got through this in a few days (which is highly unusual for me). It’s gripping and believable with characters you truly come to care about. I found it hard to leave alone and the story hung around with me for a long time after.
He might not be an influence for Matt but I detected shades of Michael Marshall Smith in the writing — both have a way of writing the fantastical elements with wit, style and realism that speaks to my sense of humour.
