Cinderella

The story of "Cinderella" has continued to be popular internationally from its first  films in France in 1899 and silent movie in 1914, and produced again as recent as 2015 by Disney. It is a tale that crosses cultural boundaries and continues to be available in widest varieties of media available today. 


The main character Cinderella in this story is a mistreated and poor girl, who is more of a servant than a member of the family. The Name ‘Cinderella’ came from the 'cinders' and ashes from coal and wood burning fireplaces or stoves. She would be responsible for cleaning the cinders out of the furnace, which was their only source of heat at that time in the Kingdom of Naples, where the first version was published in 1634.
