THE TRUTH HIDES IN THE DARK

Kate Marshall’s investigation into a young boy’s disappearance sends her down an unexpectedly twisted path in a riveting thriller by multi-million bestselling author, Robert Bryndza.

When Private Investigator Kate Marshall is rushed to hospital after being pulled into a riptide current in the sea, the near-death experience leaves her shaken. During her recovery, she befriends Jean, an elderly lady on the same ward. Jean tells the harrowing story of how her three-year-old grandson, Charlie, went missing eleven years ago during a camping trip on Dartmoor.

By the time Kate is well enough to go home, she's agreed to take on the case, but when Kate and her trusty sidekick Tristan start to look at the events of that fateful night, they discover that Jean has a dark past that could have put Charlie in jeopardy

Was Charlie abducted? Or did he fall into Devil's Way? A rushing river that vanishes into a gorge close to where they were camping.

When Kate and Tristan discover that a social worker who flagged concerns about Jean and her daughter was found brutally murdered shortly after Charlie vanished, it makes them question everything they thought they knew about the family...

Filled with twists and turns, Devil's Way is the fourth Kate Marshall novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet!

Another amazing and thrilling story from Robert

Oh my!!! I’ve read every one of Robert Bryndza’s books and they just get better and better. This was a thrilling story that I just gobbled up, I don’t like saying “unputdownable “ however I’m finding it difficult to describe it in any other way…I can usually put a book down and turn on the tv about 8pm.. Not with this book…no tv and read through to nearly 2am to finish it. My only criticism is that it finished too quickly…..more please! Thank you to Netgalley the author and publishers for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review

Brilliant read

I’m On a family camping trip at Devils Way (Eastern part of Dartmoor National Park) June 2007 Jean Julings was sharing a tent with her beloved three year old grandson Charlie, while his parents Becky (Jeans daughter) and Joel were in another tent close by.
Second night when putting Charlie to bed Jean promised to read him a story once she has had a cigarette, she went outside when finished she heard someone calling her name recognising the voice of her ex partner Declan and not wanting to disturb Charlie she went to tell him to go away. Returning after around ten minutes she found Becky looking for Charlie, he wasn't in either of the tents after checking the area the police were called they sent out search parties including sniffer dogs but no sign of Charlie was ever found, it was assumed he had stumbled into the river and drowned.
June 2018 Kate Marshall, an experienced sea water swimmer goes for her daily morning swim and gets caught in a rip tide there's nothing she can do, as she is dragged under by the strong current she feels the life draining from her as the life is leaving her body. Next thing she is aware of is feeling battered and bruised, but she's alive and in hospital feeling foolish as she knows the sea. Now the doctor was telling her she has pneumonia.
The woman in the next bed was loud shouting to the nurses to turn the light out woke Kate up, she started speaking to Kate asked if she'd heard right, are you a private detective? Kate said she was.
Jean introduced herself told her about her grandson going missing eleven years earlier said she wanted to hire her to find him. Kate asked her to tell her what happened Jean tells her what happened and Kate agreed to take the case.
When she woke up the bed next to her was empty she was unsure if the medication was playing with her imagination.
What a book Robert has excelled himself yet again. I absolutely loved this book, there are so many twists and turns keeps you guessing right until the end. I couldn't put this book down it really is a page turner. The characters really warm your heart sometimes they don't seem the most pleasant of people but with a bit of empathy you see through that. Love Roberts books roll on next one.

Excellent read

Three year old Charlie goes missing on a camping trip with his parents and grandmother. Despite their best efforts they are unable to find him and call in the police. After an extensive search, it’s is supposed that Charlie wandered off and fell into the nearby river, then swept away.

Eleven years later, Kate and her partner Tristan, private detectives, are asked to take on the unsolved case. But is everything as it seems?

Once again Bryndza has shown us what a master storyteller he is. He is one of those rare breed of authors that get you invested in the story within the first few pages. A skilled and classy author who never lets you down, keeps the suspense up throughout the plot, without the need for unnecessary dialogue. The characters are fully developed, with those you love and those you love to hate.

A good 5* read.
