Publisher Description
'Outstandingly brilliant' Clare Mackintosh
Pushed to breaking point, Cara Burrows abandons her home and family and escapes to a five-star spa resort she can't afford. Late at night, exhausted and desperate, she lets herself into her hotel room and is shocked to find it already occupied - by a man and a teenage girl.
A simple mistake on the part of the hotel receptionist - but Cara's fear intensifies when she works out that the girl she saw alive and well in the hotel room is someone she can't possibly have seen: the most famous murder victim in the country, Melody Chapa, whose parents are serving life sentences for her murder.
Cara doesn't know what to trust: everything she's read and heard about the case, or the evidence of her own eyes.
Did she really see Melody?
And is she prepared to ask herself that question and answer it honestly if it means risking her own life?

Customer Reviews
Slow and easygoing storyline
aka. SherleyB.
Good beginning to the story..
Then it just got meandering in the middle, still not a bad story...
Unfortunately not a great read!
I don’t know what to say about this book. The blurb makes it sound great, so the idea of the story I think is good, but sadly everything else about it is not.
Cara runs away from home as her family don’t want the same thing that she does (trying to be vague as I don’t like spoilers). So she travels across the world to a luxury spa in Arizona to give herself some time out. I have to say this in itself is a bit extreme, most people would probably just talk things over with their family or if they did need time away they wouldn’t spend their life savings on a luxurious spa holiday 5200 miles away!
Anyway, when she arrives she gets the key to her room. Only it’s not her room as it’s already occupied by a man and a young girl. After an awkward encounter, Cara heads off to find out where her actual room is. The next day Cara comes across information about a high profile murder case of a young girl Melody from 7 years ago. Well would you believe it, that murdered girl was the one in the room Cara had entered by mistake the night before. Cara makes it her quest to find out if she did indeed see Melody alive!
Apart from Cara entering the room and spotting a girl who was believed to have been dead, nothing else happened in this book at all until over halfway. I almost gave up and then something happened and I thought, alright I’ll persevere. I kind of wish I hadn’t. I hate speaking badly of a book as I honestly appreciate all the time an author puts into writing something, but I can’t lie, this book was terrible.
I didn’t like any of the characters, they weren’t relatable and things they did just seemed extreme and unlikely. Some of the book is just pages of conversations between a talk show host and her guests. This bored me and pages and pages went by where people just talked about the same thing over and over. Every now and again I thought maybe this will reveal a big twist, but it didn’t.
I’ve had a look over the reviews for this book and it’s a real mixed bag of 2 stars and 5 stars so I’m going to put this to you as a marmite book! It seems people either love it or hate it. I actually like marmite but sadly I didn’t like this book.
As always this is just my opinion, so if you like the sound of the blurb, then please don’t let me put you off as you may enjoy it! This was my first Sophie Hannah book, I think I’ll need some recommendations from others if I’m to try one of her others.
Any fans of hers please don’t hate me. I literally want to curl up in a corner and hide when I write anything below 3 stars as I’m such a positive person when it comes to books, but as a blogger, I have to be honest. I guess we can’t all like everything we read 😊
Felt bit slow to begin with
Building up to the story. Again didn’t disappoint. Would have liked to have found out what happened next to Melody
