DUSHANBE/TAJIKISTAN -- The Quadrilateral summit of Pakistan, Russia, Afghanistan and Tajikistan has expressed the resolve to promote regional trade and undertake joint projects in energy, transport, communications, agriculture and infrastructure projects. It called for development and strengthening of trade, economic and security relations, combating terrorism, extremism, illegal trafficking of drugs and trans-national organized crimes among the four countries and support activities at national, regional and international level to promote sustainable socio-economic development and security in the region. In a joint statement issued here Friday after the quadrilateral summit in Dushanbe, the heads of four countries expressed their support for CASA 1000 hydel project and export of 1,000 Megawatt of electricity from Tajikistan to Pakistan. The conference welcomed initiative of Pakistan to participate in the implementation of gas pipeline project from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan. The next quadrilateral summit will be held in Islamabad next year.
