Enemy Territory

He wondered what the spark had been. Was it the heinous suffering of a friend and his family? Was it the state of a world gone mad with pandemic and politics? Was it the doubtful pronouncements of science and social media? Perhaps the sermon on Job which had left him with more questions than answers? He had an inkling that the book sample he had read, which initially prompted ridicule on a partisan political basis, now stirred a more first principles’ view that all human systems are fatally flawed. Maybe it was a combination of all these in a mind which, these days, wouldn’t let an issue go unless it was spelled out, literally, on a printed page.
