Great recommendation from Chris Brookmyre led me to this
I saw a Tweet from the fantastic Mr Brookmyre recommending this, so gave it a go. Really glad I did, and I have now read this one and The Lost and am now downloading the third book.
Really interesting characters and plot. Not quite a 'whodunnit', as that is clear from early on, but a more interesting book about relationships impacted by crimes at all levels in the worlds of people loved despite their flaws.
And it's a gripping read too, so highly recommended.
