Publisher Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
In his poignantly romantic novel, Thomas Hardy follows an independent young woman as she navigates love and the cost of freedom in rural England.
When Bathsheba Everdene inherits a farm, she refuses to marry and hand it over to a man. Instead, she runs it herself, making choices both wise and disastrous. Three very different men pursue her: steady Gabriel Oak, wealthy William Boldwood, and dashing Sergeant Troy.
Bathsheba’s decisions shape not just her own fate, but those of everyone around her. Deeply felt and painfully human, Far from the Madding Crowd shows Hardy’s hopeful side, celebrating a woman who insists on choosing her own path.
Customer Reviews
Really enjoyed this book. The description of the scenery is beautiful and really transported me.
Beautifully written.
Truthful, rustic and somehow Christmasy
The main advantage of the book, which the reader will be able to reach at first with his mind and secondly with his senses, is its truthfulness and versatility to life. It is not written in one particular manner, and where the door of tenderness in writing and description opens, a man called Coggan, or any other, is likely to come in and remind of reality. The book exhibits many different ways of living, some unexpected turns of fate; and hardens someone’s disposition.
