Publisher Description

For more than four years, Martin McGartland lived the astonishing life of a secret agent.

To the IRA, he was a trusted Intelligence Office and an integral member of an active service unit. To the British Government however, he was known only as 'Agent Carol'. Martin McGartland is credited by British Intelligence with saving the lives of at least fifty people. Every time he tipped off the authorities, he risked detection and yet, heroically and fearlessly, he continued to pass on life-saving information.

Finally, his cover was blown. Martin was taken from Sinn Fein headquarters in Belfast to an IRA safehouse for questioning and almost certain execution. Though guarded by armed men, in a desperate bid for freedom, he dived from a third floor window ... This breathtaking story is now a major film starring Sir Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess (as Marty) and Rose McGowan.

Bondy mcfc ,

Brilliant read couldn’t put it down.

This fella was so brave. I can’t imagine how unnerving or scary it must have been working for the ira and Special Branch at the same time.

They haven’t gone away y’know

Very interesting read, describing life during the Troubles as a Special Branch informant was an eye opener, hopefully the author lives long enough to write further books.

The only book I have read in 1 day!

I watched the film fifty dead men walking and was intrigued to find out more about Marty. I found out from the Internet that the book was a must read and contradicts the film in many ways.
The book is riveting from beginning to end, you are caught up in the roller coaster world of Marty from the very beginning and are unable to put it down, possibly one of the best books I have ever read. I am normally bored with books that take forever to get into the story, but from page one, you are taken along for the ride of a lifetime feeling the tension and fear that Marty went through.
A must read.
