Figure of Speech

Byline: Shahana Rajani 'Figure of Speech,' which opened at Chawkandi Gallery in September 2009, was a show much out of the ordinary for Karachi. The two artists, Roohi Ahmed and Abdullah Syed, were not grouped together in the usual practice. Instead, theirs was a collaborative exhibition where their works engaged in a playful dialogue with each other. The artists' time spent together during their residency at the Cicada Press - a research group within the College of Fine Arts in Sydney, Australia - enabled them to explore the possibility of sharing each other's aesthetic vocabulary, leading to this exhibition.
