President Robert Thompson, after being caught in an embarrassing, fetish-related scandal and with an impeachment looming, plans his own feigned assassination with the help of his politically ambitious wife and his psychiatrist, to save his place in history and live out his days anonymously on an island. This satirical account chronicles Rob Thompson's path from national scoundrel to immortal hero. Thompson's psychiatrist, Petros Andros (Pete), tells the story of their conspiracy, amid myriad indiscrete digressions about his other patients. Pete's struggle to deal with the amorality of the first couple through his own naivety, and his blind love for the First Lady, is the driving voice of this light and entertaining tale of duplicity and intrigue.
