From the Preface. One result of the publication of this work, I venture to hope, will be an increased interest in the simple improvement of existing fisheries and the formation of some new ones. But the result I should especially like to see is a proper application of the possibilities of fish-farming on sound business-like lines. I would like to see fish-culture become part and parcel of the education of those who rent or own the rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds of the British Isles; and I firmly believe that it will become so in the very near future.
