In the chaos of war, not all heroes shine.
For thousands of years, the high elf king bided his time, waiting for his opportunity to claim dominion over all nine realms. But the king of the dark elves defied him and the fragile treaty between Light and Shadow shattered.
True heroes must rise from shadows to claim the light.
Curuthannor may be the youngest son of the greatest swordsmith of the fae, but he would rather wield a blade than craft one. When the high elf king commissions a powerful new sword requiring iron found only in the subterranean goblin mines of the Shadow Realm, Curuthannor seizes the opportunity to prove his worth. If he fails, the lives of his entire family could be at risk...for the high elf king is unmerciful and will not suffer disobedience.
For when the pen fails...
As the most trusted handmaiden to the high elf princess, Lhéwen is honored to attend her mistress on what she believes is a diplomatic delegation to the dark elf king. She doesn't realize it could be a one-way trip. While the princess forges an escape from the high king's ruthless will, Lhéwen is trapped in a foreign land. Betrayed and alone, Lhéwen discovers it is her own quiet power that may free—or doom—them all.
...the sword will take its place.

A Struggle for power has devastating consequences
Megan Haskell is Exceptional !! at creating a living world with characters that are so strong in depth & emotion that you will find it hard to stop thinking about them. The introduction quickly grabs you into the heart of this storyline making it hard to look away as a simple smithy family becomes integral to this plot, all because of the demand for a enchanted sword. A princess who rebels against her father, the most powerful king in the upper realms, starts her scheming to become a part of the royal family within the realm of the dark elves. Taking with her another vital m/c character, her trusted confidant Lhéwen her handmaiden who believes princess Faeliel is more like a sister than employer. King Rindae & his sons who would not swear fidelity to King Othin therefore taking some convincing the princess has any good intentions. Meanwhile things are set into motion that will end in a war even Sanyaro the forseer cannot stop as all these family’s lives become intermingled. There is treachery, heartbreak, betrayal, death, devastation and a brewing romance in both the light and dark realms. This to me is a brilliant fantasy journey that involves family’s not listening or believing in their children, being ruthless and more interested in Power than the wellbeing of them. I immediately despised Both kings for this very reason, especially Othin who’s daughter became an inconsiderate user of anyone close to her, revealing the monster behind the facade. If you have read the Sanyare Chronicles by this author you will immediately recognise the storyline, however this was from Curuthannor & Lhewen’s POA including some new scenes and more understanding of Sanyaro & The Crossroads Inn. This is another excellent creative piece of work from Megan Heskall, a don’t miss book that deserves to be part of your collection
