Publisher Description

This is the first biography of Fred Wedlock who died in 2010. It tells the story of his childhood in the Redcliffe area of Bristol through the folk circuit of the 1960s and 70s to national stardom as the Oldest Swinger in Town. This was the song that propelled him to Number 6 in the charts in 1981 and resulted in Top of the Pops appearances with Legs and Co and national celebrity status. Fred did for the West Country what Billy Connolly did for Scotland, Max Boyce for Wales and Jasper Carrott for Birmingham. He had opportunities to make a much bigger name for himself but he so loved the people and places of the West that he was happy to settle back here after his brush with the madness of fame.
