Publisher Description
A standalone adventure in the New York Times and USA Today-bestselling, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning series!
The security droid with a heart (though it wouldn't admit it!) is back in Fugitive Telemetry!
Having captured the hearts of readers across the globe (Annalee Newitz says it's "one of the most humane portraits of a nonhuman I've ever read") Murderbot has also established Martha Wells as one of the great SF writers of today.
No, I didn't kill the dead human. If I had, I wouldn't dump the body in the station mall.
When Murderbot discovers a dead body on Preservation Station, it knows it is going to have to assist station security to determine who the body is (was), how they were killed (that should be relatively straightforward, at least), and why (because apparently that matters to a lot of people—who knew?)
Yes, the unthinkable is about to happen: Murderbot must voluntarily speak to humans!

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Hugo and Nebula Award–winner Wells brings her solitude-craving, media-loving killer robot protagonist another step closer to independence in the entertaining sixth entry in the Murderbot Diaries series (after Network Effect). A dead body found in Preservation Station mall propels Murderbot, a SecUnit, into a new contract as a consultant in the murder investigation. Murderbot hopes to gain the refugee status that would enable it to stay in the Preservation Alliance, but it's an uphill battle as rogue SecUnits are feared as unhinged killers—an unfounded fear in this case, as Murderbot wants nothing more than to catch up on its favorite soap opera in peace. Vexed by the illogical humans it's forced to work with, Murderbot patiently explains its way through the clues it uncovers, and Senior Officer Indah can't help being impressed with Murderbot's investigative skills and surprisingly compassionate regard for life. Murderbot's wry observations of human behavior are as humorous as ever and the mystery is thoroughly satisfying. This is another winning series installment.
Customer Reviews
Didn’t like the start, but then it delivered
Took me two goes to get over the start, which I felt was weirdly cumbersome. Glad I persisted though — shortly after if clicked into good old Murderbot mode. I really enjoyable read.
Fugitive Telemetry
Fugitive Telemetry is a wonderfully engaging read. Fast paced and with well rounded characters that bring the clever story to life, Martha Wells has really chivvied the Murderbot Diaries along in this sixth instalment. The murderbot character is a wonderfully human personality, without being all human, that anyone can relate to and which makes the stories set in this well-realised world such a fun read. In the latest instalment, murderbot, or SecUnit, is seconded to Station Security to help solve a murder mystery and although we were not given the usual level of excellently conceived tactical action for which I certainly, have come to love about these stories, the plot moves along, the characters are relatable and the world is a fun place to live for a few days. It’s not a long story - the Muderbot Diaries aren’t - but its protein rich and I would easily recommend it to anyone looking for a space adventure with a wonderfully layered main character and written with a light touch. Bravo, Martha Wells: an excellent series. You set the standard.
