‘FUN IN A PEDAL BOAT’ is the third book in the ‘Adventures in Bessiebuss’ series, written by a Reading Therapist, with 30 year’s teaching experience. These books are designed for struggling readers, and one glance inside will quickly convince you that these books are new, exciting and very different.
Parents and reluctant readers alike will find them appealing, because they are easy to read. A parent moves the story along, to provide an age appropriate story, reading from ordinary text. The shorter child’s reading mirrors the story, but the print is larger, colour coded and designed to make the sounds easier to recognise. Most importantly, only one or two new concepts are introduced in each book.
‘Fun in a Pedal Boat’ continues the practise of simple words, and the eight digraphs already practised. It also introduces the six ways of writing sound ‘oe’ (hope), in the context of words and sentences, where they belong and where they are easier for a child to recognise.
The book continues the story of the Kid family and their first holiday in their amazing new caravan, Bessiebuss. Having spent the morning on the beach, the older children pester Mum to be taken out in a Pedal Boat.
The book follows the children on their Pedal Boat ride, laughing and splashing each other, as they find their way into a mysterious cave.
