Publisher Description

Fans of Maggie Stiefvater, Patricia Briggs, Roshani Chokshi, or Rainbow Rowell will be richly rewarded by this contemporary fantasy series.

A lonely teen chances upon abilities not seen for centuries. She must master them in secret, or her only friend will die.

Alice Brickstone is a tall high school loner with serious social anxiety. She’s angry at the world and can only find peace in the wilderness, far away from peers and parents. One day, a mysterious hermit claims she has abilities unheard of in modern times. He warns her of danger.

Then an outsider hunts her through the woods. Alice barely escapes with her life…by flying away.

As she tries to understand what she had become and why she is hunted, Alice finds refuge in the unexpected kindness of a girl from school. Can she risk confiding in her first friend ever? Can Alice shield her friend from the forces standing against her?

As Alice closes in on the shocking truth, the fate of everyone she loves is in her hands.

GIRL IN THE AIR is book one of the Alice Brickstone series. Try it now; you’ll fall in love.

Fine, but will I like this book?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Alice Brickstone series…
…is fun, polished writing,
…is young adult urban fantasy, also called contemporary fantasy,
…features a strong heroine, colorful characters, and a gripping plot,
…is inspired by mythology from ancient India.
Have I read anything similar to the Alice Brickstone series?
Like The Raven Cycle, the Alice Brickstone series creates a new fantasy world rather than relying on familiar tropes. In other words, neither series has witches, vampires, shifters, or werewolves.
Like the Simon Snow series, Alice Brickstone books feature a Potterish friendship trio and a magical school. But unlike Simon, Alice shies away from sexual relationships.
Like Mercy Thompson, Alice is a gritty kick-ass heroine with practical interests and magical abilities.
Like Aruh Shaw, Alice’s abilities are inspired by Indian mythology. But while Aruh Shaw books are like Indian versions of Percy Jackson, with children who are avatars of gods, Alice Brickstone books do not rely on gods or religion. Alice’s abilities come from an elemental power called prana, which is like The Force in Star Wars.
What readers are saying:
★★★★★ “I have rarely fallen in love with a heroine so thoroughly as this.”
★★★★★ “Like an X-men character the awakening of her abilities is fabulous to read and the unveiling quite mesmerising yet believable”
★★★★★ “As for Alice, there are no words to describe this grown woman in a teenager's body, who makes you feel like giving her a great big hug, but also makes you feel you should be straightforward and matter-of-fact with her, because that's the way she'd want it.”
