Clara Entwhistle's new advertising campaign for Fleet-Entwhistle Private Investigations had seemed like an excellent idea at the time. Right up until she and her erstwhile co-investigator Archibald Fleet find themselves recruited - rather forcefully - by Even Greater London's Coalition of Crime Syndicates to investigate a murder that could topple the cautious peace that holds the city's underworld together.

Hired to find the true killer (the 'or else' is silent, but emphatic), Clara and Fleet travel to far flung corners of the Gargantuan Megaopolis (Cornwall to Reading), and from the very lowest rungs of society to its uppermost echelons.

And once they're done, Fleet will have strong feedback on Clara's future advertising endeavours.
