Lecter also has an unusual love interest, his uncle's Japanese wife, Lady Murasaki, but the bulk of the narrative focuses on Lecter's quest for revenge on those he holds responsible for Mischa's death. Unfortunately, the prose and plotting lack the suspenseful power of Red Dragon or The Silence of the Lambs, and will leave many feeling that with such a masterful monster as Lecter, less is more.

A Great start to explain how Hannibal Lecter became as he is
Excellent story line very in depth and descriptive the story was done after the three Hannibal Lecter books but I think you need to read this one first before red dragon, silence of the lambs and Hannibal
Flash, bang and fizzle.
The book started with a lot of promise, incredibly gripping in places, but began to shrivel with each successive chapter, perhaps this is more me impressing my own expectation upon the character but it felt very much to be building toward a clever crescendo which never really came and felt rushed, loose ends of storyline were all tied up unconvincingly and felt to me quite vague, but there again perhaps this is a sign of a good novel leaving me wanting more than what was provided…
