Hilaire Belloc / The Man and His Work

Joseph Hilaire Pierre René Belloc was born on July 27, 1870, in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, Yvelines, France. He was an Anglo-French writer and historian. He was one of the most productive writers in England in the early twentieth century. He was a well-known writer, poet, satirist, orator, sailor, soldier, man of letters, and political activist. 

In his life, he wrote many poems, essays, non-fiction literature and travel writings. But, he was best-known by his humorous, comic verses for children, and his religious poetry.

During his later years, Belloc could afford a yacht and sailing, and he became a well-known yachtsman. He won many races and was part of the French sailing team.

He suffered a stroke in 1941 and never recovered completely. He died on 16 July 1953 in Guildford, Surrey, United Kingdom.

This book presents Belloc’s biography, his character as a person, poet, historical writer, reformer, humorist, and as a publicist. Also, it describes his relation to the public, and gives overview of his writings.
