Publisher Description

Newly-wed Lady Juliana Beamish has much to look forward to but her future turns bleak when the ship she is voyaging on is attacked by pirates.

Captain Drake O’Hara serves no master and only one mistress – the sea. On course for Jamaica he is reluctant to waste time investigating wreckage strewn across the ocean’s surface but when the debris offers up a beautiful survivor, he has no option but to take her aboard.

Drake undermines her every notion of what desire is but, uncertain if she is still a wife or might already be a widow, Juliana is unwilling to dishonor her marriage vows. Returning to England is the only recourse she has to determine her status. Can she continue to resist Drake or will she surrender to the unrelenting passions he has stirred in her?

Reviews
During the reign of George IV of England, Juliana, is travelling with her bridegroom, William Beamish, to Calcutta where he is to take a position with the East India Company. The ship they are travelling on is attacked by pirates. As a result, Juliana, possibly the only survivor, is adrift at sea in a small open boat at the mercy of the elements. More dead than alive, she is rescued by the mysterious Captain Drake, whose ship is sailing to Jamaica, but after his business in Port Royal is completed, he promises to return Juliana to England.

Even before Juliana fully regains her health, the explicit sexual tension and encounters between the lady and the seafarer take place.

Apart from this tale of unashamed lust and love, there is plenty of conflict and drama to engage the reader, and it is obvious that the author has invested time in research. Added this are descriptions of sword fighting, the question of slavery and excellent scenes, which give a sense of place, such as the following one with its depiction of Port Royal.

“The dust from the sandy, dry street swirled around his (Drake’s) feet stirred up not only by his passage but by the bare-foot slaves, horses’ hooves and trundling carriage wheels. He ignored the cries of food vendors, side-stepped ladies discussing their purchases outside Nellam’s Store at the intersection of King Street and Harbour Street…etc.”
