The two friends, confidantes, and medical students were becoming inseparable once again, having lost touch somewhat when one of them had married.  Montgomery promised himself that he would keep Stephan at arm's length, but being so close to him every day and most nights was beginning to wear down his defenses.  He found it difficult to concentrate on anything, except Stephan.  When he was near Stephan, he fantasized about the two of them, and when he and Stephan were apart, Montgomery dreamed about him.
