I Remember

In honour of Remembrance Day, The Toronto Star interviewed twenty veterans of Canada’s wars, conflict zones and peacekeeping missions. In their own words, these men and women recall touchstone moments of their war experience. From relieving Bergen-Belsen to landing at Juno Beach and from stealing orchard plums to finding a child’s marble in the Red Sands Desert of Afghanistan, the memories are alternately searing and funny, heart-breaking and poignant.


Through these remarkable stories, we the readers, find ourselves immersed in the heat and the danger, the intensity and bravery of these moments, and we come to new appreciation of the extraordinariness of these people who are our family, our neighbours, and our friends.
